Pemimpin Pilihan

Kalau pilih pemimpin,

pilihlah yang berkepala geliga,

agar selamat agama, bangsa dan negara,

jangan pilih yang berkepala batu,

nanti merana ke anak cucu,

pilihlah yang bertelinga lintah,

agar dapat mendengar semua masalah,

jangan pilih yang bertelinga kuali,

semua masalah tak ambil peduli,

pilihlah yang bermata redup,

tanda pemimpin yang berhati perut,

jangan pilih yang bermata duitan,

kelak binasa satu kerajaan,

pilihlah yang bermulut manis mengatur bicara,

bukan bermulut murai mengata serata,

kalau perlu hidungnya mancung tersorong-sorong,

jangan pula hidungnya tinggi, bongkak dan sombong,

muka bercahaya senyum menawan,

bukan bermuka tembok tidak bersopan,

berkuku pendek, bersih dan cantik,

bukan berkuku besi pentingkan diri,

bertangan kasar rajin bekerja,

bukan bertangan panjang mau cepat kaya,

yang penting hatinya terang disinari iman,

bukannya gelap mengikut nafsu syaitan,

kalau pilih pemimpin itulah caranya,

bukan memangkah ikut ikut saja.

Hujan

Hujan itu membawa rahmat,

membawa rezeki untuk sekalian umat,

hujan itu membasahi tanah yang kontang,

memberi harapan kepada Hj. Ali, Tauke Ho dan Linggam,

setelah lama membanting tulang,

hujan itu memberi amaran,

atas kerakusan manusia pada pemurahnya alam,

tanah runtuh, banjir dan hakisan,

tanda terlukanya alam yang indah,

dari kealpaan sang khalifah,

hujan itu lumrah alam,

memberi rahmat kepada yang beringat,

memberi bala kepada yang alpa...

Words And Us

Mind your words. They are not just words but a reflection of what you truly are. It’s a natural way to describe yourself to others. How you choose the words and arrange them to make a sentence represent your inner self at one particular moment. Your mood, intelligence, experience, nature of conversation and state of mind and health are the major components that make up your words. A simple YES can have a lots of meaning.

If somebody had promised you to return your call but never did, that’s means he or she didn’t really meant what they’d said to you. Which further indicated that your presence is less importance to them. It also means that he or she will said anything to make you feel temporary satisfy even though you will suffer later. They are the type of people who don’t dare to tell the truth at your face but will make you realize later at their back. They afraid to face the reality, avoiding confrontation and want to look good by others. Be careful with this type of people.

Another example is a person who like to talk sweet. This person will talk all the good things of you in front of you and all the bad things of you in front of others. They are type of attention seeker people and need constant approval from others. What other think of them is more important than what they think about themselves. Don’t give too much attention to this type of people because none of what they said carried the weight.

There are lot of what words can tell us about one person. The more they talk the more they open up themselves. A wise man speak less and do more. Like one of my friend said,’ The clever man tells, the wise man knows quietly’.

Kasih Anak

Apakan daya anak-anak semua dah rasa terer, nak jadi anak derhaka, tak takut api neraka. Nak jaga bapa di hospital pun sebab rasa terpaksa bukan kerana rela. Sama-sama adik beradik pun bermasam muka gara-gara tak mahu jaga bapa.

Riwayat al-Hakim

Huraian :

Pengajaran hadis:

InsyaAllah……..

My Precious Birthday's Present

I didn't get much birthday present since I was 12 years old. Birthday celebration for me is my wife and kids have a nice dinner at home. The 'special gift' from my wife though has to wait until all the kids went to sleep.

Not until my recent birthday, I got a very precious gift from a friend that I knew for only 3 weeks. Well, it's not physically precious as the present was a pair of socks. My friend bought it for a nice bargain. Buy one free one and it's only cost him RM 4. It's not about the socks I want to highlight here but it's all about this friend of mine. He is very decent guy working as general worker in one of the local survey company. His gross monthly income is RM 300 per month (believe me, he did showed his payslip). Well, with that kind of money what you expect to get in today's world.

He did somehow knew that my birthday was coming soon but his financial was so tight. So, he decided to sell 'Gambir Sarawak' in Kuching Water Front's area with only a small profit margin. He then managed to get some extra money from the sale and bought the socks. And that was how I got my birthday's present.

When he handed me the present I was shocked, not because he gave me a nice wrapped socks but the thing was, I didn't expect anything from him. We just knew each other for 3 weeks and RM 4 for him is just like, I don't know maybe a RM 100 for most of us. Furthermore he had to do extra work to earn it and he did so just to give me a birthday's present. I still remember what he said to me," I have nothing special to give you but this is all what I can afford. Happy Birthday my friend....." I knew from that very moment, I was not only getting a pair of socks but a friend and a very sincere friendship as well. That is the most precious birthday's present I ever had. Thank you my friend for the lovely socks

Nothing....Truly.....

My mind jammed. I had this what they called writer's block. So what I do? I lighted up my ciggarette and with every puff I took I was inspired. But still nothing to write...Inspired but totally useless. "C'mon you can do it..." I said to myself. "Don't let those ciggarettes wasted." 6 sticks in 6 minutes and still nothing happened. What should I do. I laid down and closed my eyes for 10 seconds, no 20 seconds oh no, its 5 minutes I think. By the time I opened my eyes it was exactly 1 hour and 10 minutes. "Shit, I was asleep." Blame it to my comfy pillow.

I made myself a cup of hot Milo. "Emmm...marvellous." Within 5 minutes it's all gone. Still nothing in my mind. "Wah...this is terrible. May be a yoga will clear the clog in my mind. Ah...may be 1 more ciggarette will do." I reached for my ciggarette pack but it was empty dumpty. I was ran out of inspirational source. "What the heck, the shop is only 5 minutes away." 10 minutes later, I was fully back up with 2 packs of king size ciggarette. Then, I had another problem. It was my lighter. It won't work. Krit....krit....and no fire at all. Jammed like my mind. I went straight to my kitchen and light up my double burner stove as a substitute for the lighter. Vaah....within a second I burnt a bit of my cultivated and groomed hair of my upper lip or a moustache. "Damn it, now I have to trim it back."

It was though...My mind don't want to cooperate at all. I looked at my watch, it was 9.00 pm. "May be I shouldn't force it." After a thorough consideration, I switched on my PS 2 and played Winning Eleven. Goal! Every matched I played I won....Too easy...I switched off the console. By then it was 11.00 pm and I went straight to sleep....zzzzzzzzz......

Proton Perdana V6 Executive Vs. Mercedes Benz E200K

3.43 million for the comfort of state exco members and senior officers in Terengganu. After a thorough consideration, decision then is made by the state government to purchase 14 units of Mercedes Benz E200K and to replace the former Proton Perdana V6 Executive purchased in 2004. The reason, German cars were bought for the safety of the state officials who had to travel extensively and to reduce the cost of maintenance.

The question is why Mercedes Benz and not the other brand? Toyota or Honda for example. How come maintenance cost for our national car is higher than those of foreign cars? Is it means that our national cars is brokedown more often compare to theirs counterpart and thus increase the cost of maintenance? If that is so, why is such situation happened?

Whatever the answers are, now we all know that our national cars are less safe and more expensive to maintain. Now, that are the problems, so let us find the solution to overcome these. So Proton, you have a job to do. Your job now is to convince back Terengganu Government in the credibility of our proud national car, Proton V6 Executive. That is a challenge you have to take. How will you compete in the international market if you have already lost in the local one?

CHESS IN SCHOOL

For a starter, consider this statement; The State of New Jersey passed a bill legitimizing chess as a unit of instruction within the elementary school curriculum. A quote from the bill states "In countries where chess is offered widely in schools, students exhibit excellence in the ability to recognize complex patterns and consequently excel in math and science..."

A research conducted in Russia indicated that, after a considerable amount of educational research in elementary schools found that experimental groups of children who learn chess in a formal, systematized way in school perform better in math and science than aged-matched control groups.

One of my chinese friend in Sibu, Sarawak said to me that he had learned Chinese Chess or Xiangqi in his school as a part of the curriculum. By playing chess, he has improved his mind concentration and focus.

According to Jerry Meyers, a chessmaster and scholastic Director for the Pittsburgh Chess Club, playing chess will improve overall academic performance by teaching the following skills:

  • Focusing • Children are taught the benefits of observing carefully and concentrating. If they don't watch what is happening, they can't respond to it, no matter how smart they are.

  • Visualizing • Children are prompted to imagine a sequence of actions before it happens. We actually strengthen the ability to visualize by training them to shift the pieces in their mind, first one, then several moves ahead.

  • Thinking Ahead • Children are taught to think first, then act. We teach them to ask themselves “If I do this, what might happen then, and how can I respond?” Over time, chess helps develop patience and thoughtfulness.

  • Weighing Options • Children are taught that they don't have to do the first thing that pops into their mind. They learn to identify alternatives and consider the pros and cons of various actions.

  • Analyzing Concretely • Children learn to evaluate the results of specific actions and sequences. Does this sequence help me or hurt me? Decisions are better when guided by logic, rather than impulse.

  • Thinking Abstractly • Children are taught to step back periodically from details and consider the bigger picture. They also learn to take patterns used in one context and apply them to different, but related situations.

  • Planning • Children are taught to develop longer range goals and take steps toward bringing them about. They are also taught of the need to reevaluate their plans as new developments change the situation.

  • Juggling Multiple Considerations Simultaneously - Children are encouraged not to become overly absorbed in any one consideration, but to try to weigh various factors all at once.

With all the benefits and excitement of playing chess, why don't we promote this game in school at early stage and put it in the curriculum as a part of education. I strongly believe it will play a major role in early childhood education development.

My Favourite Southpaws

I am a left handed person which means my right brain is dominant than the other side. Which also means that I am more into artistic nature such as writing and day-dreaming to name few.

About 10% of the world’s population is left-handed. There is a genetic component that determines right versus left-hand dominance, and it’s called the LRRTM1 gene. People with this gene are more likely to be lefties.

Throughout the ages, many lefties or southpaws had significantly influenced our world although they only consist of 7-10 % of world's population. Among others these are my favourites (regardless of the chronology):

  • Albert Einstein (famous for his Theory of Relativity and mass-energy equivalence, E=mc2)
  • Bill Gates (American business magnate, philanthropist and chairman of Microsoft).
  • Wolfgang A. Mozart (prolific and influential composer of the classical era)
  • Leonardo Da Vinci (a scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and writer) a true genius.
  • Alexander The Great (was one of the most successful military commanders in history, and is presumed undefeated in battle).
  • Marie Curie (a pioneer physicist and chemist in the field of radioactivity, a nobel prizes winner and the first female professor at the University of Paris).
  • Kurt Cobain (a famous American musician).
  • Pablo Picasso (one of the most recognized figures in twentieth-century art)
  • Billy The Kid (was a famous 19th century American frontier outlaw and gunman who was a participant in the Lincoln County War).
  • Julius Caesar (Roman military and political leader that played a major role in transformation of Roman Republic into Roman Empire).
  • Winston Churchill (was a British politician known chiefly for his leadership of the United Kingdom during World War II).
  • Pele (the greatest footballer of all time).
  • Charlie Chaplin (one of the most famous actors as well as a notable filmmaker, composer and musician in the early to mid Hollywood cinema era).
  • Robert De Niro (American film actor, director, and producer).
  • Marilyn Monroe (was an American actress, singer and film producer. She won a Golden Globe Award, and in 1999 was ranked as the sixth greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute).
  • Nicole Kidman (she was the highest-paid actress in the motion picture industry in 2006).
  • Jimmi Hendrix (my rock icon).
  • Neil Armstrong (the first person to set foot on the moon).
  • Buzz Aldrin (the second man to set foot on the moon).
  • JF Kennedy (35th president of USA).

All these men and women had contributed significantly to the world in their own fields and expertise. To me, they are the symbol of great mind of the left handed people. Hail to them.....

Our Patriotic Song

Now, don't get me wrong. Under no circumstances that I would like to undermine our national anthem. I love my country very much and I would die to uphold her sovereignty. By virtue of that statement, I would like to invite all of us to feel the effect of our national anthem to ourselves compare to the national anthem of United States of America.

Our National anthem,

Negaraku
Tanah tumpahnya darahku
Rakyat hidup bersatu dan maju
Rahmat bahagia Tuhan kurniakan
Raja kita selamat bertakhta
Rahmat bahagia Tuhan kurniakan
Raja kita selamat bertakhta.

Its idiomatic translation is:

My country, my native land
The people living united and progressive
May God bestow His blessings and happiness
May our Ruler have a successful reign
May God bestow His blessings and happiness
May our Ruler have a successful reign.

and now compare it with USA national anthem, Star Spangled Banner

Oh, say can you see,
By the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
Through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there.
O, say, does that
Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free
And the home of the brave?

Honestly, which song do you think will have more effect to our patriotic spirit? You answer that question yourself. But my suggestion is, why don't we, you know, make a new arrangement to our national anthem and let the younger generation remember the sacrifices of our ancestor in their fights for independence and a free kingdom. Let's this song embedded in the hearts and souls of every citizen and not just a song that every student has to sing every monday morning or during gold medal giving ceremony.

Let us remember our history good and bad so that we can learn our lesson through our national anthem. Long live Malaysia......Malaysia Boleh!

BERIKAN AKU IMAN

Izinkan aku menangis,

menitiskan air mata,

puas sudah aku bergembira,

terlalu lama hidup di syurga,

hingga nikmatnya tiada lagi terasa......,

berikan aku derita,

agar dapat ku merasa nikmat bahagia,

berikan aku kecewa,

agar dapat ku menghayati indahnya cinta,

berikan aku kegagalan,

agar dapat ku merasai manisnya kejayaan,

juga berikan aku segugus iman,

agar bisa ku mensyukuri semua nikmat dan ujianmu,

Tuhan, semesta alam.......

THE RICHEST MAN IN THE MALAYSIA

I've been thinking last night and after 10 minutes I made a conclusion, the richest man in this country would be me. You may ask why? What did I do that lead to that shocking statement?Well, what I did was, I opened an email account.

Last week alone, I had received several emails from unknown persons. The emails happened to be from somebody that somehow have the opportunity to inherit a very large sum of money from a very rich men in their countries that unfortunately had met their own demised. Most of it because of airplane crash (what a coincidence!). In order to get the money, somehow, I've been chosen as the lucky one to assist them. You see, they can't have this money unless they transfer it to somebody else bank's account in another country.

I do the math and if I did it correctly (I am a left handed guy, spare me the math), I'll be a proud owner of 3 billion usd and that's of course after 50% deduction of my oversea counterparts. Enough for my 7th generations that's if they could spent it wisely.

In addition, I am also a lucky winner from some sort of lucky draw contest by Go ogle (UK) in line with their annual anniversary celebration. The money is in pound sterling with an amount of 300,000.00 pound. All of these will be mine within an email away.

So, see you all in Disneyland........

REALITY CHECK - How Good Talents Are Wasted

Over the years, I've been observed and witnessed a lots of injustice related to employee's potential in workplace. I've seen a real capable officer was sidelined for a promotion just because his words were not pleasant enough to the Boss's ears. Instead, a sweet-mouth talker and a real ass-kisser got the merit. Even though this talker wasn't a good doer, his opinion certainly a music to the boss's ears.

I can say that, based on my own observation, most of the working culture particularly in my country are shaped that way. It's developed into kind of business plan that good in paper but not in practical. It's full of facts and figures, grafts and tables, and nice graphics design with state of the art technology but the essence remains empty. First impression is important but if it is based upon fabrications, it's doom to fall apart sooner or later. That's why some marriages ed up in divorces.

Organization that is built by this nature, will face their inevitable consequences eventually. Respect if not fear is only exist in the surface. People will talk bad things behind as well as tonnes of good ideas. During monthly review meeting, staffs will speaks only of favorable things in order to please the Boss and to appear good in front of the others. Gradually, the reality is distanced away and nobody would like to talk about it because the Boss doesn't approve. If somebody is bold enough to bring it out, he will be subject to ridicule and topped of Boss's blacklist. Believe me, annual appraisal won't be that encouraging and this once a highly motivated and talented chap slowly burn out. The only solution is to look for a greener pasture.

My example above may be straight forward and slightly exaggerated but that's what actually happened in some organizations. Of course in real life the drama is more complicated but the basis is still the same. What I'm trying to say here is, in order to make a good progress in whatever we do, all we need is to understand that most of the time reality can be really suck, but we have to accept it and a find a way to improve it further. It's take a lots of courage, commitment and persistent effort but of course, it's lot easier to say than done. Still, it is not impossible.....

Just give a thought to the following quote;
' A lot of talents get wasted simply because they speak the truth....'

SHALE OR PETROSAN

If you are staying at Kuching, Sarawak, the choice for petrol kiosk is limited to three major companies. It's either SHALE, PETROSAN or XCEL. I would like to rule out XCEL since not many people accustomed to it.

I have done my own study about these two oil stations. From that, it's came to my conclusion that SHALE give me more kilometers compare to it's major rival, PETROSAN. If you don't agree with me, you should conduct your own study and evaluate it yourself. Not that I want to undermine PETROSAN but as a consumer, I do choose a better return on product's benefit. The value of our money goes to the product/service we consider the best. There are of course a lots of criteria to be considered, but for me, more kilometer coverage is already made the point.

With the globally hiking crude oil price, we all should consider the best options available. I am strongly hope that Jatropha curcas will replace at least 50% of our dependability on fossil oil. Unfortunately, the pace of its RnD is equivalent to the pace of my friend's pet, the tortoise.

THE POWER OF EMPTY STOMACH

All these while, I've been living in my own comfort zone, complacent with my life. I took many things for granted, I don't realize how much they are really meant to me. Life seems so effortless...

One day, I decided to step out from this comfort zone and venture into unknown territory. Being used to the life of comfort I temporary became shock. 'It's a wild world', a song that repeatedly came into my desperate mind. Those day I can relax and enjoy the show, but nowadays, I have to run the show. I see the world in its real core value without being shrouded with the luxury curtain. Then I started to feel the power of survival. Now I understand why some people act certain way that hard to comprehend in a 'normal' condition. When the body and mind aligned themselves to survive, people can do a lot of unpredictable and unbelievable things. Your hibernated and frozen potential within yourself suddenly melted and flow itself out without you even realize it. It's up to you though whether to channel this out in a negative or positive way.

For me, living in this excited, challenging and unpredictable new world, bring out the very best of me. I really feel the true excitement and satisfaction of life that I never feel before. Suddenly I see all the previous obstacles in my path are actually a blessing in disguise. I probably won't see it coming if I'm still in my own comfort zone. Like one of my friend beautifully put it, 'God will test mankind based upon their own capability and not beyond that'. How true it is.....

About Power

"power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." It was quoted by John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton or simply known as Lord Acton, English historian and moralist in 18 century. Personally, I see it more clearly in today's world. Struggle for power has left mankind to ignore their basic conscience and heed to whatever course available in order to obtain it. Quest for power, will never end. Yet few know, that 'knowledge is power'.

One who get used to have power can't lead a normal life if he lost it. He will resort to any means to get it back. By hook or by crook. This obsession become his primary objective. Nothing can stop his greed and lust for power except his death.

In politic, similar thing happen. People with power seldom become what they used to be before the power imposed to them. With power come great responsibility, and not many can hold dear to that. No ordinary people should hold the power yet most people think they are the right person to have it. Power if fallen to the wrong hand will be devastating. Einstein himself regretted to have indirectly involved in the 'Manhattan Project' which resulted in death of thousand of people following the bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

History especially like the above should not be repeated. No power is everlasting except to our mightiest God. We too should learn how to step down and give a chance to other people to hold the power. Who knows, it is the smartest move we have ever made.
